Metro Detroit welcomed the 2006 Super Bowl XL to Ford Field
Well, it's over, and the Pittsburgh Steelers were the victors. Visitors to the city were exposed to all the exciting events being held during Super Bowl week. Super Bowl XL was held on Sunday February 5, 2006 at Ford Field. Stevie Wonder performed during pregame festivities, Aretha Franklin sung the National Anthem, and The Rolling Stones were featured at the half time event. Lots of stars and celebrities were spotted downtown and in some of the metro areas. The Jimmy Kimmel Live Show was at the Gem Theatre all week. Jimmy was well received. Bloomfield Hills -Home of The 35th Ryder Cup Matches
Oakland Hills Country Club, in Bloomfield Hills, hosted The 35th Ryder Cup Matches, in September of 2004. This was the first time The Ryder Cup Matches have been held in Michigan. Oakland Hills is a world renowned course, and has previously hosted other world class golf events. The weather was wonderful each day. During the evenings, celebrities were seen in and around the hotspots of Birmingham and Bloomfield. Unfortunately, the European team won, ahead of the United States team. Well, that was last year. This year, Detroit hosted the Major League Baseball All*Star Game at Comerica Park. Super Bowl XL coming to Detroit on February 5, 2006.
